Abia North Senator and former Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will complete two terms in office, affirming that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has no alternative candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on a national television political program, Kalu ruled out the possibility of an Igbo presidency in 2027, despite acknowledging the need for one in the future.
“I am not going to discuss anything about the Igbo presidency. But I still tell you there is a need for it,” he said.
According to the former Abia State governor, an Igbo presidency must be widely accepted across Nigeria, emphasizing that no single region can unilaterally produce a president.
“The Igbo must present an acceptable candidate to all Nigerians. No one zone can make a president. President Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba. He was elected by all Nigerians,” he stated.
When asked about the timing for an Igbo presidency, Kalu reinforced his stance on Tinubu’s reelection bid, asserting that the President’s second term is “non-negotiable.”
“Well, in our party, we have only one presidential candidate now. President Tinubu has to do eight years. It’s a must. You can see the repairs he has done to the economy and things are starting to pick up again. This president is not even doing politics. He has never told anybody he wants to run for an election or not.
“But as a party, we have mandated him to run and given him a vote of confidence. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given him a vote of confidence through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the National Chairman of the party. So, things cannot just get better in one night,” Kalu stated.
With Kalu’s declaration, APC appears to be consolidating support behind Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, setting the stage for another term under the current administration.
