The Kaduna Good Governance Forum (KGGF) has called on former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai to allow his successor, Governor Uba Sani, the freedom to restore peace and stability to the state. The Forum condemned what it described as El-Rufai’s ongoing interference with the current administration, including accusations of harassment and attempts to distract Governor Sani’s efforts.
In a statement, the KGGF also accused El-Rufai of threatening Governor Sani with regard to the 2027 general elections. The Forum denounced these actions as attempts to rewrite history and assert El-Rufai’s influence over Kaduna State, despite his departure from office.
El-Rufai had supported Uba Sani, who served as his Special Adviser on Political and Intergovernmental Affairs, in Sani’s successful bid for the governorship in 2023. However, tensions quickly emerged between the two after Sani assumed office. Governor Sani is currently leading a probe into the actions of the former administration.
The KGGF, in its statement signed by Comrade Richard Amos, endorsed Sani’s efforts to address the issues of insecurity and corruption that it claims were exacerbated during El-Rufai’s tenure. The Forum expressed concern that El-Rufai’s recent actions are aimed at distorting the legacy of his administration to suit his narrative.
Furthermore, the KGGF condemned El-Rufai’s alleged threats against Governor Sani regarding the 2027 election, labeling it a direct threat to democracy. The Forum emphasized that the people of Kaduna State, not political figures, have the sole right to determine their leadership in the upcoming elections.
The Forum urged El-Rufai to cease his attempts to rewrite history and allow the current administration to focus on healing the state. The KGGF also called for an investigation into the alleged financial mismanagement during El-Rufai’s time in office, noting concerns over the possible theft of state funds and the security risks tied to El-Rufai’s policies. The statement further expressed hope that the investigation would extend beyond El-Rufai’s aides to include the former governor himself.
In its conclusion, the KGGF raised serious concerns about El-Rufai’s past role in contributing to insecurity in the North-West and suggested that his actions could potentially undermine the security of both Kaduna State and Nigeria at large. The Forum also criticized his failure to secure a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, despite being nominated, and accused him of seeking to rally support from individuals who had failed in public office.
