The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s exit from the party, insisting that his defection poses no threat to its stability or future electoral success.
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, announced on Monday that he has left the ruling party and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections. He cited internal crises within the APC as the reason for his departure.
Reacting to the development, Kaduna APC Secretary Yahaya Baba-Pate reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its objectives, particularly ensuring victory for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the next election cycle.
“We are unperturbed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection to another party. Our main focus in Kaduna is on delivering the state to both President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027,” Baba-Pate stated.
He further emphasized that the APC in Kaduna continues to expand, attracting high-profile politicians.
“The party is growing by the day. We are not disturbed and will not lose sleep over El-Rufai’s decision. The APC in Kaduna is stronger than ever,” he added.
