The Edo State House of Assembly has terminated the appointments of all its political appointees, effective immediately.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku announced the decision during plenary on Tuesday, stating that the affected officials—including Special Advisers (SAs) and Senior Special Advisers (SSAs)—were appointed by the 8th Assembly upon its inauguration in June 2023.
Agbebaku explained that the move was a unanimous decision by the 24 lawmakers, adding that the appointees would still receive their February 2025 salaries.
“It has been nearly two years since these appointments were made. The House has graciously agreed that all SAs and SSAs be relieved of their duties as of today, February 19, 2025,” the Speaker said.
He added that lawmakers would deliberate further on the next steps regarding the vacant positions.
