Jandor Dumps PDP, Says Party Has Lost Faith in Itself

Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has declared that the party has lost confidence in itself due to persistent internal crises.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Tuesday, Jandor, who resigned from the PDP on Monday, cited the leadership turmoil at the party’s national headquarters as a key factor in his decision to leave.

He pointed to the ongoing controversy surrounding the position of the party’s National Secretary, where both Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye lay claim to the role. Additionally, he noted the growing dissatisfaction with acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, whom many party members blame for worsening the PDP’s woes following the departure of Iyorchia Ayu.

The internal discord, he said, has led to increasing divisions within the Board of Trustees, National Working Committee, and National Executive Committee. Tensions are particularly high in the South-South, where a zonal congress was held on February 22 without the approval of state governors.

Jandor lamented the party’s deteriorating public image, stating, “Who goes around posting that they are a member of PDP these days? With what is happening at both the national and state levels, the optics are bad. Even the party itself has given up.”

According to him, the same individuals responsible for the party’s struggles remain in power, making any real change unlikely. He expressed skepticism about the PDP’s ability to reform itself ahead of the 2025 congresses and 2026 primary elections.

Following his exit, Jandor said he is yet to decide on his next political move but remains open to various options. “We have 18 political parties in Nigeria, so there are 17 other options. But we will consult and decide. There are also coalitions forming, with people coming together to explore new possibilities,” he stated.

Regardless of his future political affiliation, he affirmed his commitment to respecting party leadership and structures, adding, “This is the path we have chosen, and we are not deviating. Only God determines the future.”
