Imo Assembly Lifts Suspension on Four Lawmakers

0

The Imo State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of four lawmakers after they showed remorse and pledged to uphold parliamentary conduct.

The decision followed the adoption of a report by the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, led by Majority Leader Kanayo Onyemaechi, who presented the findings during plenary. Onyemaechi, representing Owerri West, revealed that the suspended lawmakers expressed regret for their actions and promised better conduct moving forward.

The affected members—Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West), Samuel Otuibe (Ahiazu), Henry Agbasonu (Ezinihitte), and Samuel Ogbunikpa (Okigwe)—were suspended on July 2, 2024, over alleged unparliamentary behavior after returning from a legislative training in Abuja.

The House adopted the committee’s report and resolved to reinstate the lawmakers with all entitlements restored.

Deputy Minority Leader Clinton Amadi praised the decision, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness. “Nobody is perfect. It’s good that the House chose reconciliation, and I hope such incidents won’t happen again,” he stated.

With the suspension lifted, the four lawmakers are set to resume their legislative duties immediately.
