The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has debunked widespread speculations suggesting he is planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odii’s response follows remarks by the Chairman of APC in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, who publicly insinuated that the PDP chieftain was considering a move to join the ruling party.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Odii dismissed the claim in strong terms, saying he has no interest in switching parties, either now or in the foreseeable future.
“Let me categorically state that I am not considering joining the APC, now or in the foreseeable future. I am yet to see any compelling reason — ideological, political, or developmental — that would warrant such a decision,” he said.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and restated his commitment to the principles of good governance and democratic integrity.
“My commitment remains firmly with the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic progress. These values continue to guide my actions and political engagements,” he added.
Odii emphasized that his political aspirations are anchored on justice, equity, and service — not opportunism or convenience.
While acknowledging Chief Emegha’s right to promote his party, Odii cautioned political leaders against making speculative statements capable of misleading the public and distorting the political discourse in Ebonyi State.
“I urge political actors, especially those in leadership positions, to refrain from speculative statements that may mislead the public or distort the political landscape of Ebonyi State,” he concluded.
