I’m Not Defecting – Enugu Lawmaker Harrison Ogara Debunks APC Rumour

0

A member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Harrison Ogara, has strongly denied reports suggesting he is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the speculation as “lies from the pit of hell.”

Ogara, who represents the Igbo-Eze South Constituency under the Labour Party (LP), dismissed the viral claims circulating on social media, which alleged he would formally join the APC on Saturday.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the lawmaker expressed shock over the reports and insisted there was no truth to them.

“I don’t know where they got the information from; I feel so embarrassed. I had to search for it myself and found out it was being spread by APC e-rats,” Ogara stated.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Labour Party, emphasizing that he has no intention of leaving the party that provided him with a political platform.

“Why should I defect to the APC? Their ideologies do not align with mine. I have no reason whatsoever to consider such a move,” he said.

Ogara also dismissed any possibility of defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recalling how the party initially rejected his candidacy.

“Some said PDP, and I asked why? PDP rejected me ab initio. I found a home in Labour Party where I contested and won. Leaving the party would be morally bankrupt,” he added.

He likened defections by some politicians to opportunism driven by fear, especially fear of electoral manipulation, and questioned the moral foundation of such decisions.

“The problem with most defections is not that other parties are performing better, it’s the fear that elections will be rigged, so some want to join them to write results. But where is the morality in that?” Ogara asked.

However, the lawmaker hinted that if internal crises within the Labour Party become unmanageable, he would consider following the party’s presidential flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi.

“Mr. Peter Obi is our leader. Wherever he goes, I go,” he concluded.
