Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has dismissed growing speculations that former President Muhammadu Buhari, ex-Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and other key figures from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc may exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Friday in Lafia, Governor Sule firmly stated that there is no truth to the rumours, which suggest discontent among CPC loyalists who allegedly feel marginalized under the current administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“There is nothing like taking CPC away,” Sule declared. “Our father, former President Muhammadu Buhari, is CPC—no one else. When he says CPC is with you, it is. And when he says it is not, it is not.”
He emphasized Buhari’s enduring influence within the party, referencing the former president’s long-standing electoral support base. “He keeps carrying his 12 million voters with him wherever he goes, and he is not going anywhere from the APC,” he said.
Governor Sule also addressed reports that Malami was being wooed to leave the ruling party. “Those trying to take our good products from the APC will not succeed. They want to take Malami away, but let me tell you, Malami is going nowhere,” he said.
He revealed that a recent visit to Buhari in Kaduna was to reaffirm their loyalty and assure him of his continued relevance within the APC. “We told Baba—you’re not going anywhere,” Sule added.
