National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as “practically dead,” alleging that its national leader and former Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is seeking a return to the ruling party.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday while receiving a delegation from the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Ganduje said the APC would be open to welcoming Kwankwaso back into its fold, describing the potential defection as a “homecoming.”
“The NNPP is dead and will soon be buried. The coffin is already constructed, and the grave is being dug,” Ganduje said, using metaphorical language to describe the state of the opposition party.
Ganduje, himself a former governor of Kano and one-time close political ally of Kwankwaso, said the former minister had lost political relevance and was now seeking “redemption” in the APC.
“Even the so-called national leader of the NNPP, after losing everyone, now wants to come back to us. We will welcome him, because he is returning home,” he added.
The comments come amid growing political realignments ahead of future elections, particularly in Kano State where both Ganduje and Kwankwaso wield significant influence.
