The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed strong confidence that his party will successfully reclaim Kano State in the upcoming 2027 elections, citing a waning influence of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
In a speech delivered at the 8th and 9th APC Kano State House of Assembly Forum dinner, Ganduje, represented by the state APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, asserted that the influence of Kwankwaso, who led NNPP to victory in Kano in 2023, is rapidly diminishing. He claimed that many of Kwankwaso’s former supporters were now abandoning him due to dissatisfaction with his leadership.
“I always get surprised when Rabiu Kwankwaso claims he is the one who has the people. If not for our internal issues that caused some of us to leave, he wouldn’t have won any election in the state,” Ganduje stated.
The APC leader further alleged that former allies of Kwankwaso were already regretting their decision to support him. “Those who helped him are already disappointed and regretting it. I assure you that we are done with Kwankwasiyya. Even the governor is unaware of all that is happening within his administration,” Ganduje added.
Ganduje emphasized the importance of unity within the APC, describing it as the essential path to reclaiming power in the state. “Unity is the only way out for us; it’s the only option we have to get what we want. God has already intervened in our situation. The current government is distorting the state, and we are just waiting for the right time. The next election will be like shifting a hen from its eggs,” he said.
The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, also echoed Ganduje’s call for unity, expressing optimism that APC would fare well in the 2027 elections. Ata asserted that if elections were held today, the party would have no reason to fear, attributing the party’s past defeat to divine will. He also criticized the current NNPP-led administration in Kano, stating, “The way the state is being handled now, we all know it’s not in good hands. Nobody is enjoying the leadership.”
Ata praised President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing Kano in national development initiatives, highlighting the allocation of 500 housing units to the state, compared to 250 for other states.
Forum Chairman, Abdul’azeez Gafasa, recognized the contributions of past APC leaders and underscored the party’s commitment to unity, stating that it would be key to achieving their political goals.
Efforts to reach the Kano NNPP Chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa, for comment were unsuccessful, as repeated calls to his mobile line went unanswered.
