Galadima Warns: Appointing Retired Judge as INEC Boss Could Spark Civil War

Galadima

ABUJA — A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has raised alarm over alleged plans by the federal government to appoint a recently retired Court of Appeal judge as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that such a move could plunge Nigeria into civil unrest.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Monday, Galadima described the alleged nominee as “notorious” and unfit to oversee Nigeria’s electoral process.

“Come November, there are rumours all over that this government is nominating a just retired Court of Appeal judge, who is known for notoriety, to be the chairman of INEC. I wish it is not true. Because if that man becomes the chairman of INEC, be rest assured that this government is inviting a civil war in this country,” he said.

The NNPP stalwart accused the current administration of undermining democracy and claimed that the electoral body, under its present leadership, was already compromised in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The INEC chairman has already rigged the election for APC. They brought somebody that was secretary of the party, who went to court for APC as acting national chairman, and rewarded him with INEC chairmanship,” Galadima alleged.

He cautioned that appointing individuals with tainted records into such sensitive positions could destabilize the nation.

“If this man is appointed INEC chairman, then forget about elections in Nigeria. Because there would be no elections in this country, and it will create chaos,” he warned.

Galadima urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, insisting that only credible figures should be entrusted with managing the nation’s electoral system.
