Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his private residence in Lagos, in what marks their second closed-door meeting since Fubara’s suspension from office.
Photographs released by the State House confirmed Fubara’s presence at the Lagos residence of the President, where the two leaders engaged in private discussions. However, details of the meeting have not been officially disclosed at the time of this report.
Fubara’s visit comes in the wake of his suspension on March 18, 2025, alongside Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, following a presidential declaration in response to prolonged political unrest in the state.
President Tinubu, citing the need to restore governance and political stability, had also declared a state of emergency in Rivers State and appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas as the state’s administrator to temporarily oversee governmental affairs.
The ongoing crisis stems from a breakdown in relations between Governor Fubara and members of the Rivers State legislature, prompting national attention and multiple intervention efforts from the presidency.
This latest visit suggests ongoing behind-the-scenes efforts to resolve the lingering political deadlock in the oil-rich state, with many political observers watching closely for potential resolutions that could emerge in the coming weeks.
