Felix Morka Denies Threatening Peter Obi, Calls Allegations Malicious

Felix Morka, the National Spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vehemently denied accusations made by Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, who claimed that Morka had threatened his life and family following recent comments made by the APC spokesperson.

Obi had accused Morka of issuing threats against him in connection with the criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration that Morka shared in his New Year message. The allegation followed an interview Morka gave on Arise TV on January 4, 2025, where he was asked to respond to Obi’s continuous criticisms of the government. In the interview, Morka stated, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.” This statement, Obi contended, was a direct threat to his safety.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Morka denied the accusations, asserting that his words had been misinterpreted and taken out of context. He emphasized that he had never threatened Obi, his family, or anyone associated with him. Morka further clarified that his comment was a response to Obi’s repeated actions, particularly his criticisms of the current administration, and not a personal threat.

“To be clear and for the record, I did not threaten Mr. Obi or anyone else,” Morka stated in his response. “Nothing that I said during that interview remotely suggests or contains a threat to Mr. Obi or anyone around him. The claim that I threatened his life is categorically false and unfounded.”

Morka accused Obi of making false statements for political reasons, calling the allegation a “malicious lie” intended to play the victim. According to Morka, Obi’s claims were not only inaccurate but also incited his supporters to target Morka and his family with death threats online. Morka condemned the online harassment, labeling it “unacceptable” and urging Obi to take responsibility for the consequences of spreading falsehoods.

The APC spokesman also pointed out that as a public figure, Obi has an obligation to provide truthful information and to avoid misleading the public for political gain. Morka stated, “Mr. Obi’s behavior is reprehensible and his actions undermine public trust.” He called on Obi to publicly retract his false claims and urge his supporters to cease making threats and inflammatory remarks.

Morka ended his statement by making it clear that he would explore all legal avenues to defend his reputation. He also reaffirmed his commitment to holding Obi and other opposition figures accountable for their actions while continuing to engage in open, constructive political discourse.

In conclusion, Morka urged Obi to “set the record straight,” withdraw his false allegations, and take responsibility for his actions. He emphasized that the APC remains committed to ensuring that truth and public trust are upheld in Nigerian politics.
