Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing his commitment to a new project focused on empowering Nigeria’s youth.
In a formal letter dated January 8, 2025, addressed to the National Chairman of the PDP, Bafarawa described his decision as “profoundly personal and challenging,” but essential to realign with his vision for youth-focused initiatives.
Bafarawa explained that his new endeavor is aimed at inspiring, empowering, and transforming the lives of young Nigerians, whom he considers the bedrock of the nation’s future. “I have recently dedicated myself to a youth initiative that seeks to inspire, empower, and change the lives of young individuals,” he said in the letter.
While acknowledging the PDP’s significant role in advancing Nigeria’s political landscape, Bafarawa emphasized that stepping away from the party was necessary to avoid any conflicts of interest as he shifts his attention to the youth empowerment project. His focus, he affirmed, will now be on creating opportunities for youth, fostering innovation, and promoting principles that contribute to a prosperous future for all.
Bafarawa expressed gratitude for his time within the PDP and thanked its leadership and members for their contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.
