The 2023 Bayelsa governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Udengs Eradiri, and his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd.), have announced their resignation from the party. They were joined by several local government chairmen of the party in Bayelsa State.
Eradiri, who was recently conferred a fellowship by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, submitted his resignation letter to the state chairman in Yenagoa on December 8. In his letter, titled “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member,” he expressed the need to pursue his political career on a platform better equipped to provide the leadership Bayelsa State deserves. He acknowledged the support of party members but cited challenges within the party leadership as a key factor in his decision.
Eradiri, who placed third in the governorship election, thanked his loyalists for their backing. Similarly, Nathus noted that his resignation was driven by the desire to find a platform committed to a prosperous future for Bayelsa. He expressed gratitude to the party members and reflected on the invaluable experiences gained during his time with the Labour Party.
Both leaders confirmed they are engaged in consultations to determine their next political move, with a focus on finding a party that aligns with their vision for the advancement of Bayelsa State.
