El-Rufai Fires Back at APC Critics: “Their Conscience Won’t Let Them Sleep”

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has responded to criticisms from members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that their conscience will not allow them to sleep over his past political decisions.

El-Rufai, who has recently distanced himself from the APC, emphasized that his decision to support the zoning of the presidency to the South was driven by patriotism and faith, not personal gain.

His remarks came after Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other political figures commended him for prioritizing national unity over personal ambition. El-Rufai reinforced his stance by sharing an old video of Makinde praising APC governors for ensuring the party’s presidential ticket went to the South.

In the video, Makinde had acknowledged El-Rufai, alongside other northern governors, for setting aside their aspirations in the interest of fairness and national stability.

El-Rufai also reshared a past statement from APC chieftain Ayekooto Akindele, who credited him with preventing political maneuvers aimed at dividing the country along ethnic and religious lines before the 2023 election.

Reacting via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, El-Rufai wrote:

“We did what we did for God, Country, and Party, expecting nothing in return. What is unfolding is merely another life experience and part of human nature. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well.”

The former governor has recently been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the APC’s internal structure, criticizing the party for failing to hold essential meetings for the past two years. His latest comments further highlight his growing discontent with the ruling party and its leadership.
