Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he is planning to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of the National Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, El-Rufai clarified that he had no intention of exiting the party.
“I am not leaving the APC. I don’t have such plans,” El-Rufai stated firmly.
The former governor had recently been outspoken in his criticism of the ruling party, particularly regarding its leadership. On Monday, El-Rufai accused the APC of straying from its founding principles and fostering ineffective leadership. He expressed frustration with the party’s lack of internal organization, noting that no party organs had met in two years. “I no longer recognize the APC. No party organ has met in two years—no caucus, no NEC, nothing,” he said. “You don’t even know if it is a one-man show; it’s a zero-man show.”
In response, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Public Communications and Media, questioned El-Rufai’s position. Bwala suggested that El-Rufai’s criticism might differ if he were still serving in the government or cabinet.
“My senior brother, if you were to be in the government and cabinet, would you have held and expressed the same position?” Bwala asked. “It is a government you participated in its formation, that you now want to unseat. Haba, Mallam,” he added.
