Ekiti 2026: PDP Chieftain, Otunba Fayose, Vows to Unseat Governor Oyebanji

Otunba Emmanuel Ajisafe Fayose, popularly known as DOME and a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared his intention to unseat the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, in the 2026 gubernatorial election. Fayose criticized the incumbent administration’s performance, describing it as falling below expectations.

Speaking on Friday at the Ansar-u-Deen Central Mosque, Odo Otu, Ado Ekiti, Fayose emphasized that the people of Ekiti State deserve more than what they are currently receiving from the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The governorship hopeful visited the mosque in solidarity with the Muslim community during the Ramadan fast, distributing foodstuffs and cash gifts as a gesture of support.

“I came to felicitate with my Muslim brothers and sisters during this Ramadan fast and to extend a helping hand with gifts that will serve as relief to many families today,” Fayose stated. “I promise not to be far away from them.”

Fayose expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration’s “cosmetic achievements” and lamented the high rate of unemployment and lack of essential social amenities. He argued that the APC government has failed to address fundamental issues affecting the masses, such as job creation, social welfare, and adequate security.

“In Ekiti, most of our youths are forced to ride motorcycles (okada) to make ends meet, and even feeding once a day has become a struggle for many,” Fayose remarked. “A responsible government must prioritize the basic needs of its people, including food, employment, and essential amenities.”

The PDP chieftain further promised to establish industries, mechanized farming projects, and massive employment opportunities if elected. He urged Ekiti residents to support his candidacy and exercise patience as he works towards delivering better governance.

Fayose also highlighted his deep understanding of the challenges faced by the people and reassured them of his commitment to making a positive difference in their lives.

During the visit, the Chief Imam of the mosque expressed gratitude for Fayose’s gesture and offered prayers for his success. The cleric, however, acknowledged that Muslims have been well-represented in Governor Oyebanji’s administration compared to previous governments.

As the 2026 elections approach, Fayose’s bold declaration has undoubtedly set the stage for a heated political contest in Ekiti State.
