Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has said he would be independent-minded if elected.
Speaking on ‘Politics Today’, a Channels Television programme, on Monday, the PDP candidate said he would avoid the pitfalls of those in power when it comes to managing relationships with predecessors.
“I will be a man of my own. Truly, I have been a man of my own since I was 18 years old. I was brought up by my parents to make my decisions by myself, and I have gone through life doing so. But that does not mean I will not take advice from other people who have gone through similar experiences.
“It is important, I say that because it is only a foolish person who will go through certain endeavours and work types without taking advice.
“Throughout my life, I have had great mentors while growing up in my profession, either as a lawyer, businessperson or in the boardroom.
“I have always sought the advice of people I looked up to, who I valued, and looked at their capacity and their performances.
“Even in my political career so far, I have conferred with different people, including political leaders in the state across all parties, many in the PDP, some in other parties.
“I have talked to some of my friends who were governors years ago and who worked in the presidency years ago. So, I will always seek advice so that I can avoid the mistakes that many have made. It is important.”
PDP hails Appeal Court judgment reaffirming Ighodalo’s nomination
Ighodalo spoke as the PDP hailed the Appeal Court judgment, yesterday, that re-affirmed his nomination as PDP standard bearer for the September 21.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, described the judgment as another momentous victory for democracy.
The PDP also described it as a victory for the rule of law against anti-democratic forces which sought to undermine and trample on the will of the people of Edo as symbolised by the candidature of Ighodalo.
“The Appeal Court judgment has again validated the credibility of the PDP nomination process which produced Ighodalo as its candidate. The judgment effectively shut the mouths of purveyors of lies and falsehood, who were confused and frustrated by Ighodalo’s soaring popularity and acceptance by the people of Edo,” it said.
