The impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has declared his return as the parliament leader after storming the Assembly complex with armed security operatives on Thursday.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, over alleged misappropriation, insisted that he remains the Speaker.
“I’ve resumed, and I remain the Speaker of the Assembly,” he stated confidently.
His impeachment occurred while he was in the United States, leading to the swearing-in of his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, as the new Speaker. However, upon his return, Obasa challenged the legitimacy of his removal, arguing that due process was not followed.
The unfolding power tussle raises fresh uncertainty over the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
