Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has assured party faithful that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains united and formidable in the state, dispelling speculations of internal discord.

Speaking during the PDP State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa, Diri emphasized that the party is deeply rooted in Bayelsa and remains the dominant political platform for aspiring leaders. The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, highlighted the PDP’s longstanding influence, noting that it has produced numerous political office holders, including a former President of Nigeria.

“Our party is thriving in Bayelsa State and remains the party to beat. PDP has never lost in Bayelsa. So, for those looking ahead to 2027, if you want a meaningful political future, the PDP is the place to be,” Diri asserted.

He urged party members to remain steadfast and not be swayed by rumors, stressing the importance of unity in advancing the party’s interests.

PDP South-South Zonal Congress Yet to Hold

Governor Diri clarified that the PDP is yet to conduct its South-South zonal congress. He explained that while zonal congresses were initially scheduled for February 22, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) postponed the South-South congress following a request from the region’s four PDP governors, citing scheduling conflicts.

“To set the record straight, there was no zonal congress in the South-South. At the appropriate time, the national leadership will decide on a new date in consultation with the zonal leadership,” Diri stated.

The SEC meeting concluded with the council passing a vote of confidence on Governor Diri and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, reaffirming their leadership within the party.

Ogbia LGA Apologizes Over Party Dispute

In a related development, the people of Ogbia Local Government Area have formally apologized to Governor Diri and the PDP leadership over the actions of the suspended South-South Zonal Legal Adviser, George Turnah.

Chief Whip of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and representative of Ogbia Constituency 3, Mr. Gabriel Ogbara, tendered the apology during the meeting. He emphasized that Turnah’s actions were regrettable and not reflective of the values of the Ogbia people.

Meanwhile, state PDP Chairman Solomon Agwana lauded Governor Diri’s administration, highlighting its developmental strides across Bayelsa. Similarly, State Secretary Gesiye Isowo commended the governor’s leadership, stating that his achievements have provided the party with a strong campaign foundation for future elections.

As the PDP fortifies its position in Bayelsa, party leaders have reiterated their commitment to unity and continued progress within the state.
