Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will remain in office until 2031, projecting a two-term tenure for the Nigerian leader. The statement was made through his Chief of Staff, Prince Johnson Erijo, during the 49th birthday and 27th pastoral anniversary celebration of Archbishop Godday Iboyi of Promise Kingdom Ministry in Sapele.
Representing the governor, Erijo said:
“Just as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s final bus stop will be in 2031, so will that of your son, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.”
The remark has sparked political reactions, particularly from opposition voices within the state.
In a swift response, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North at the National Assembly, dismissed Oborevwori’s 2031 projection, asserting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is fully prepared to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State come 2027.
During a political engagement with party leaders and grassroots supporters in Kwale, Ndokwa/Ukwuani federal constituency, Nwoko said:
“Oborevwori wants to come to APC, but tell him to stay where he is. He will be defeated. We don’t want him in APC.”
Nwoko accused the PDP of misgoverning Delta for over two decades and insisted that change was inevitable.
“Delta will surely become an APC state come 2027. Twenty-five years of corrupt governance by the PDP is enough. APC is ready to deliver better leadership, and we are gaining ground every day,” he declared.
As political temperatures begin to rise ahead of the 2027 general elections, the stage is set for a fierce battle for control of Delta State, with both parties rallying support across the state.
