The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State has officially endorsed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election in the state.
This declaration was made during a strategic meeting held at the country home of Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, which also saw a vote of confidence passed on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, and Senator Joel-Onowakpo for what party leaders described as their purposeful and visionary leadership.
The meeting followed a wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Isoko South. Leaders from all eleven wards in the local government area were in attendance.
Senator Joel-Onowakpo, representing Delta South Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, affirmed that Governor Oborevwori is the undisputed leader of the APC in Delta State. He stated that the party’s alignment with the governor was in line with directives from the Presidency and APC’s national leadership.
“The Delta governorship seat is not vacant,” he said. “We have a government that is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy. It is our duty to support and ensure they complete their mandate.”
He further emphasized the importance of unity and warned against any form of division within the party. “There are no old or new members—everyone is APC,” he declared, urging ward chairmen to facilitate seamless registration of new entrants into the party.
The vote of confidence motion was moved by Hon. Ferguson Onwo, member representing Isoko South Constituency II, and seconded by Dr. Sylvester Onoyona, the APC candidate for Isoko North/South Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections.
Party stakeholders hailed the gathering as a renewed call for cohesion and commitment ahead of the 2027 elections.
