Crisis Deepens in Jigawa PDP as Faction Drags Party to Court

0

DUTSE, Nigeria — A major internal rift has rocked the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as a splinter faction led by Alhaji Abba Anas Adamu has taken legal action against the party, challenging the validity of recent local government and state congresses.

Operating under the banner of the Committee for Ensuring Justice and Privileges, the group has filed a lawsuit at the High Court in Dutse, seeking the nullification of the congress outcomes. The faction alleges that the processes were riddled with irregularities and conducted in violation of both party guidelines and democratic standards.

Addressing journalists after Tuesday’s court session, Alhaji Adamu criticized the party’s leadership, accusing it of being monopolized by a single individual who allegedly marginalizes other committed members.

“The entire process was neither transparent nor constitutional,” he said. “Many loyal members were excluded, and the congresses were anything but democratic.”

According to Adamu, some local government congresses were held in private residences instead of designated venues, while the state congress allegedly amounted to political appointments rather than a legitimate electoral process.

The group is urging the court to overturn the congress results, citing gross procedural breaches. The matter has been adjourned to May 28, 2025, for further hearing.

Alhaji Adamu also warned that unless the alleged injustices are addressed, the crisis could escalate further and threaten the cohesion of the PDP in Jigawa State.
