CP-PDP Backs Udeh-Okoye, Demands Party Reforms

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known as the Conference of Professionals (CP-PDP), has thrown its support behind Sunday Udeh-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.

In a statement issued on Sunday and made available to DAILY POST, the group’s Protem National Coordinator, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, stated that the endorsement followed a thorough review of internal party matters and the recent Supreme Court judgment on party supremacy.

The CP-PDP lauded the Supreme Court ruling, which reaffirmed the autonomy of political parties in determining their internal leadership, membership, and candidate selection—areas outside the jurisdiction of the judiciary.

Citing the judgment as a reinforcement of democratic principles, the group aligned itself with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, which has recognized Rt. Hon. SKE Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.

“The Conference stands with the NWC’s decision, as Udeh-Okoye emerged through a transparent and democratic process in line with the PDP Constitution,” the statement read.

CP-PDP further urged Udeh-Okoye to focus on stabilizing the party by fostering discipline, unity, and reconciliation, while strengthening PDP structures nationwide.

In a bold stance, the group also demanded the immediate expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the party, emphasizing the need to sanitize the PDP.

Beyond internal party affairs, CP-PDP strongly criticized what it described as the “manipulative and unconstitutional” actions of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led National Assembly, following its approval of the suspension of a democratically elected governor and legislature by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Labeling it a “betrayal of public trust,” the group called for the immediate resignation of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, accusing them of violating the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Concluding its statement, CP-PDP urged Nigerians to resist constitutional violations and defend democracy by speaking out against what it termed APC’s overreach and disregard for democratic principles.
