Confusion in Abia PDP: Man Named Women Leader, Elderly Woman Picked as Youth Leader

Isuikwuato, Abia State — A seven-member disciplinary committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), chaired by Goddy Nnorom, has uncovered a controversial nomination scandal in Isuamawu Ward 4, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, where a man was allegedly appointed as the Women Leader and an elderly woman picked as Youth Leader.

The bizarre selections have sparked outrage among party faithful, particularly the women and youth groups in the ward, who say the appointments undermine party values and common sense.

Following its investigation, the disciplinary committee has recommended the suspension of all individuals involved in the irregular nominations and those fueling unrest within the party.

Citing a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming that party membership matters remain internal affairs, the committee said it deliberated in line with the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended), noting that the actions violated due process and natural order, especially as qualified youths and young women were available to fill the roles.

The committee’s report highlighted specific breaches of the party’s constitution, stating:

“Recognition that the so-named infractions violated key sections of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended), including Sections 58(1)(a)(b)(d)(e)(g)(i).”

It further recommended:

“Adoption of the penalty as outlined in Section 59(1)(d) of the 2017 PDP Constitution (as amended) in response to the violations.”

Party insiders say the disciplinary measures aim to restore order and credibility in the local chapter of the PDP as preparations for upcoming political activities intensify.
