Abuja, Nigeria – The Forum of APC Support Groups Leaders has raised concerns over the escalating political crisis within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that opposition forces are attempting to destabilize the party’s leadership.
At a press conference held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, the Director General of the Forum, Dr. A. K. Peters, reaffirmed the group’s unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
Dr. Peters strongly criticized the legal challenge initiated by former Benue APC chairman, Austin Agada, against the dissolution of the state party executive, describing it as a direct affront to the authority of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). He also condemned the role of the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, alleging judicial interference aimed at undermining the APC’s leadership at both state and national levels.
“We recall that the NWC, acting under the powers of the NEC, dissolved the Benue State Executive and constituted a unity caretaker committee in February 2024 to resolve the internal crisis within the party,” Peters stated. “However, the former chairman, Austin Agada, defied party protocols by taking legal action against the dissolution, instead of exhausting internal conflict resolution mechanisms as required by the party’s constitution.”
He further alleged that the Benue State Chief Judge was aligning with the dissolved executive to challenge the leadership of President Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Peters pointed to the controversial relocation of the Benue State Local Government Elections Petition Tribunal to Abuja as a move that undermines the party’s stability.
The Forum called on the APC national leadership to intervene immediately, warning that the crisis could threaten party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We strongly urge the party leadership, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Dr. Ganduje to act swiftly before anti-democratic forces hijack this situation,” Peters warned.
The crisis in Benue APC continues to unfold, with party leaders and stakeholders closely watching the developments.
