Bafarawa Dismisses SDP Defection Rumors

0

Former Sokoto State Governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has denied reports circulating on social media suggesting that he has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The speculation arose after a viral post claimed that the ex-governor, who led Sokoto State from 1999 to 2007, had defected to the opposition party.

Bafarawa had officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in January 2025, citing his commitment to youth empowerment through the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI). He also reiterated in multiple public appearances that he had retired from active politics and had no intention of seeking or holding any political office.

Speaking to New Telegraph, a close associate of the former governor dismissed the rumors, stating that Bafarawa is currently out of the country and unaware of the claims.
