Baba-Ahmed Criticizes North West APC Endorsement of Tinubu

KADUNA, Nigeria — Former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has issued a strong rebuke to political leaders in Nigeria’s North West, warning that the region’s people — not party endorsements — will ultimately decide the fate of politicians in the 2027 general elections.

Reacting to the recent endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term by North West leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the neglect of core issues affecting the region, including violence, poverty, and insecurity.

“The people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death, and poverty have been forgotten,” Baba-Ahmed posted on his verified X handle. “It’s almost as if they think people don’t matter.”

The endorsement came during a weekend political gathering in Kaduna, where Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, moved a motion in support of President Tinubu’s second-term bid. The motion was seconded by Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, who also passed a vote of confidence in the president’s leadership.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who was also present, announced that all sitting governors in the North West would receive automatic tickets to seek re-election in 2027, describing Tinubu’s leadership as steadfast in promoting development in the region and beyond.

However, Baba-Ahmed, who recently resigned from Tinubu’s administration, criticized the event as self-serving and out of touch with the suffering of ordinary citizens.

“APC Govs in NW recently endorsed PBAT, endorsed themselves and every elected office holder and defectors from the region,” he wrote. “They forgot the people who will judge all politicians against their exposure to violence, death, and poverty.”

His comments reflect a growing wave of unease among Northern political figures, signaling potential fractures within the ruling party as the 2027 elections approach.
