A former Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Ussiju Medaner, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, saying he is adept at securing presidential tickets but lacks the political structure and grassroots machinery needed to win a general election.
Medaner made the statement on Friday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he also addressed recent claims that the opposition, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is merely making noise ahead of the 2027 elections.
“If you look at some of the opposition activities, it’s just noise-making. They are not putting their house in order. Election is not just about noise; it’s about strategic thinking,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Atiku, Medaner added, “Some of the opposition, like Atiku Abubakar, he knows how to get the ticket, but he doesn’t have those people that can win a general election.”
Reflecting on his own political experience, he recalled, “I was in CPC and supported Buhari, but we didn’t have the people who could win the election. That was the problem. I think what matters is having the right people who can deliver victory.”
Medaner’s comments come amid growing debate about the strength and readiness of Nigeria’s opposition parties as the country inches closer to the 2027 presidential race.
