Atiku-Led Coalition Denies Adopting ADC, Dismisses Reports on Secretariat Head Appointment

The emerging opposition coalition targeting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 has debunked reports that it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the next general elections.

Led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and comprising key opposition figures as well as disgruntled members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the coalition also dismissed claims that it has appointed former APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Salihu Lukman, as Head of its Secretariat.

Lukman, who serves as the coalition’s interim spokesperson, described the reports as “completely false” in a statement released Thursday in Abuja.

“The public should disregard the story, as it is entirely untrue. No such decision has been taken,” Lukman clarified. “Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC during its meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.”

He confirmed that negotiations among coalition leaders are ongoing and progressing smoothly, with final decisions on the political platform for 2027 expected soon.

“Unfortunately, some mischief makers are planting stories in the media with the aim of creating discord among coalition members,” he said. “The public and media should ignore these misleading reports. Once decisions are finalized, a formal announcement will be made by the coalition’s leadership.”

The statement comes amid increasing speculation over the formation of a strong opposition bloc to challenge the APC in the next presidential election.
