YOLA – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has renewed calls for immediate restructuring in Nigeria, emphasizing its necessity for citizens to fully experience the benefits of democracy.
Speaking at a coalition meeting in Yola on Tuesday, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed deep concern over the country’s current trajectory. He warned that failure to act swiftly could leave future generations feeling like strangers in their own homeland.
Atiku stressed the importance of a strong political movement to drive meaningful change, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and committed to protecting national interests. While he refrained from making a comprehensive statement on pressing national issues, he hinted at an impending political declaration, promising to break his silence soon.
The gathering attracted a diverse array of political figures, including Senator Ishaku Abbo, who reaffirmed Atiku’s influence beyond party lines. He described the former vice president as a central figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, whose leadership remains relevant regardless of political affiliations.
Senator Abbo further praised Atiku’s tenure as vice president, stating that it cemented his legacy as a staunch advocate for democracy.
Notably, the event saw attendance from representatives across all 21 local government areas of Adamawa State, including key members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aligned with Senator Aishatu Binani, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate.
