The National Vice Chairman (North East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Salihu, has shed light on why Vice President Kashim Shettima was excluded from the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, Salihu explained that including Shettima in the endorsement would have prematurely suggested that he had already been selected as Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
“It would have been inappropriate to endorse the Vice President along with the President because it would pre-assume that he is the running mate,” Salihu stated.
The Vice President’s omission occurred during a North-East APC stakeholders’ meeting held in Gombe on Sunday. The gathering saw party leaders from the region publicly endorse President Tinubu for re-election, but notably left out Vice President Shettima from the declaration.
The development has sparked further speculation surrounding Shettima’s political future and his position within the APC’s 2027 strategy.
