APC Stakeholders Slam Makinde Over Alleged Extravagant Spending

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the outer city zone of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have raised alarm over what they described as financial recklessness and disregard for due process by Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a strongly worded communiqué issued after their quarterly meeting on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Egbeda Local Government Area, the party leaders criticized the governor’s spending priorities, citing recent controversial projects as examples of poor fiscal management.

Among the projects under scrutiny is the proposed renovation of the Agodi Government House, estimated to cost a staggering N63.5 billion. The stakeholders also questioned the payment of N14.3 billion for the procurement of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) for the Ladoke Akintola Airport, which is currently undergoing upgrades. They noted that the same project had previously attracted a full payment of N42 billion, with an additional N10 billion disbursed later.

“Oyo State cannot be classified as financially buoyant, despite Governor Makinde receiving over N22 billion in federal allocations and nearly N10 billion in internally generated revenue each month,” the communiqué read. “With a public debt hovering around N500 billion, it is alarming that the state government continues to embark on projects that lack prudent fiscal justification.”

The stakeholders warned that such financial practices are detrimental to the long-term development of the state. They argued that funds—particularly those accruing from the removal of fuel subsidy—should be channeled into sustainable development projects or saved for future needs.

Signatories to the communiqué include prominent party leaders such as Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe (JP), Alhaji Rasaki Akilapa, Chief Lekan Adeyemo, Alhaji Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Comrade Moshood Erubami, Hon. Muniru Adebayo, Alhaji Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele.

Also in attendance was Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, who joined the meeting in a show of solidarity.

A major highlight of the gathering was an address by a coalition of loyalists under the banner of APC Peace Advocates, led by Chief Wale Ohu and Prince Niran Adeyoju. The group emphasized unity, collaboration, and a collective drive toward returning the APC to power in the state come 2027.

Their message was clear: “Oyo needs financial discipline, not flashy projects. We must work together to restore responsible governance.”
