The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has officially granted Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Mr. Peter Odey, an automatic ticket to contest the 2027 General Election.

This announcement was made on Monday by the APC Chairman in Cross River, Mr. Alphonsus Eba, during a meeting at the party’s secretariat in Calabar. He urged other party members aspiring for political positions to commence consultations and garner support from their constituencies.

Eba clarified that the automatic ticket was exclusive to the governor and his deputy, emphasizing that no other individual had been given the same privilege. He stated that the decision to endorse Otu was rooted in the principle of continuity, asserting, “Nobody changes a winning team. The governor and his deputy will fly the party’s flag in 2027.”

Even if Governor Otu expresses reluctance to run, the party remains resolute in presenting only one ticket bearing his name, just as it did in 2022. The chairman appealed to the governor to heed the collective desire of party members and accept the nomination.

Eba also lauded the acting governor, Mr. Peter Odey, for his unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu’s actions in Rivers State, particularly in maintaining peace and averting a political crisis. He commended the acting governor for clarifying that South-South governors did not consult him before opposing Tinubu’s decision, which had been misinterpreted by some individuals.

The APC Chairman expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership in restoring stability in Rivers State, highlighting the party’s commitment to unity and continuity ahead of the 2027 elections.
