In a major political shake-up, Yunusa Umar, Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has led a mass defection of about 7,500 APC members to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Umar, alongside APC Youth Leader Yusuf Inuwa Bora and Welfare Secretary Isah Zakaria, officially joined the PDP during a reception hosted by the party’s local chairman, Hon. Yusuf Sabo, and Dass LGA Executive Chairman, Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo.
Explaining the move, Umar praised Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership since 2019, citing his people-focused policies as a key reason for the defection.
“Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies have consistently prioritized the welfare of the people. We believe the PDP offers the best platform for meaningful progress, aligning with the interests of our supporters,” Umar stated.
The defectors pledged their full support to the PDP in future elections, highlighting the governor’s developmental strides as surpassing those under previous APC leadership, including the tenure of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.
Welcoming the new members, Hon. Jibo assured them of full integration into the party and urged unity in strengthening the PDP’s vision for Dass LGA and Bauchi State.
