A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from conducting the scheduled local government elections on Saturday, citing potential security threats.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, argued that the elections could spark violence, especially after six lives were lost and several others injured in separate incidents across the state on Monday.
He maintained that there was no need for the elections, as the Court of Appeal had reinstated APC chairmen and councillors, leaving no vacuum in the 30 local council areas.
“The President’s intervention is crucial to prevent further bloodshed. Osun needs peace, not political turmoil,” Oyintiloye stated.
He urged Governor Adeleke to respect the rule of law and, if dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s judgment, approach the Supreme Court rather than risk public safety.
While commending security agencies for restoring calm after Monday’s violence, Oyintiloye extended condolences to affected families and encouraged residents to remain law-abiding.
He emphasized the APC’s commitment to peace and urged the state government to prioritize the protection of lives over political ambitions.
