APC Chieftain Dumps Party, Backs Soludo for Second Term

0

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former federal lawmaker, Ifeanyi Ibezi, has declared his support for Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), citing the APC’s lack of preparedness for the upcoming governorship election.

Ibezi, who represented Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the announcement at his country home in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area. He stated that his decision followed the outcome of the APC primary election, where Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu emerged as the party’s flagbearer despite perceived stronger contenders.

“Soludo must go for a second term,” Ibezi declared. “I went on inspection of his projects, and I know he is doing well. If your party is not doing well, what will you do? Is it not to switch support to a better party?”

According to the APC chieftain, his endorsement of Soludo is a reflection of the governor’s visible development strides and the APC’s internal crisis. “Our support will move immediately to Soludo,” he affirmed.

The APC primary was marred by controversy, with three frontline aspirants withdrawing from the race ahead of the vote. Prof. Obiora Okonkwo pulled out, citing threats to the safety of his supporters, while Paul Chukwuma decried the presence of “unprogressive elements” within the party.

Observers say Ibezi’s public endorsement of a rival party’s candidate underscores growing discontent within the APC’s Anambra chapter and may reshape the political dynamics ahead of the 2025 governorship election.
