APC Accuses PDP of Sponsoring Protest Over LG Crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) traded accusations on Saturday over an alleged plot to stage a protest concerning the ongoing local government crisis in the state.

In a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC claimed that the PDP-led administration was orchestrating a protest in support of its elected council chairmen and councillors. The party cautioned the public against participating in what it described as a government-sponsored demonstration, alleging that political thugs had been mobilized to hijack the protest and disrupt public order.

“Intelligence at our disposal indicates that the embattled PDP-led government is planning the protest to stir undue sympathy for its illegally selected council chairmen and councillors,” the statement read.

The APC further alleged that the protest could escalate tensions in the state, citing a precedent on February 17, 2025, when one of the reinstated APC local government chairmen was killed. Additionally, the party accused certain political elements of enlisting thugs to collaborate with the Amotekun Corps under the leadership of a retired Chief Superintendent of Police from Oyo State, whom it claimed had a history of executing “dirty jobs” for his principal.

In response, PDP’s Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, dismissed the allegations as baseless, insisting that the ruling party was focused on governance rather than political distractions.

“The PDP and Governor Ademola Adeleke are dedicated to delivering the dividends of democracy and positively impacting the lives of the people. We have no interest in organizing protests,” Bamiji stated.

He further accused the APC of being historically associated with political unrest, asserting that the PDP remained committed to maintaining peace and stability in the state.

As tensions mount over the local government crisis, security agencies have been urged to remain vigilant and ensure public order is upheld.
