Agbo Major has been elected as the new National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) following the party’s national convention held on Tuesday at the RockView Hotel in Apapa, Lagos.
The convention, which commenced at 9 p.m. and concluded at approximately 4 a.m. on Wednesday, was attended by party delegates, national and state officers, as well as members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Working Committee (NWC).
Other key officers elected include Oginni Olaposi as National Secretary, Chief Felix Chukwurah as Deputy National Chairman (South), Babayo Muhammed as Deputy National Chairman (North), Mr. Adetoyese Omokanye as National Treasurer, and Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam as National Publicity Secretary.
Additionally, Hajia Aisha Kade was elected National Woman Leader, Edward Ofomona emerged as National Youth Leader, and Omolara Johnson was chosen as National Organizing Secretary, among other newly appointed executives.
The convention follows a directive from the Abia State High Court, which, in a ruling on November 1, 2024, mandated the NNPP Board of Trustees, led by its Founder and Chairman, Boniface Aniebonam, to reposition and reconstitute all organs of the party from ward congresses to the national convention. The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize and engage with the reconstituted board.
Speaking at the event, Aniebonam affirmed that the party had successfully restructured its leadership from the ward level up to the zonal offices, culminating in the national convention to elect the National Working Committee (NWC) responsible for overseeing the party’s administration.
“In carrying out these responsibilities, INEC and relevant security agencies were duly notified,” he stated.
With the successful conclusion of the convention, the NNPP’s newly constituted leadership is expected to steer the party’s affairs in preparation for future political engagements.
