Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has emphatically dismissed rumors of a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a crucial stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday evening.
The Governor, addressing party leaders at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, declared, “My people, party elders and chiefs, I declare before you today that I am not defecting to APC or any other political party. I remain in PDP. Ignore any fake news.” His statement put to rest weeks of speculation about his political future, which had sparked concern among party loyalists in the state.
The meeting, chaired by Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, saw a strong turnout of prominent party members, including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who addressed the gathering online. Also present were key figures such as Senator Olu Alabi, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Professor Wale Oladipo, former National Secretary of the party, Lasun Yusuf, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Wale Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.
Throughout the meeting, the Governor’s commitment to the PDP was reiterated, with stakeholders rallying behind him in full support of his leadership. They expressed confidence in his vision for the state, commending his efforts in governance and his dedication to delivering tangible benefits to the people of Osun.
In a remarkable show of unity, the party leaders issued a vote of confidence in Adeleke’s leadership, describing him as an efficient, forward-thinking Governor who has brought significant development to the state. They further endorsed him as the party’s sole candidate for the 2026 governorship election, signaling their unwavering support for his re-election bid.
The meeting also addressed concerns over recent defections within the party, with the stakeholders publicly reaffirming their loyalty to the PDP. In a collective statement, they praised the resilience of party executives, elected officials, and leaders, particularly those from the Oriade/Obokun federal constituency, for standing firm with the PDP and rejecting any attempts to sway them toward the APC.
The strong endorsement of Governor Adeleke is seen as a strategic step in solidifying the party’s position ahead of the 2026 elections. With his leadership fully backed by the state’s key political players, Adeleke is now poised to continue his mission of governance and development in Osun State, setting the stage for a unified PDP campaign in the coming years.
