ADC Coalition Holds Landmark Summit in Umuahia

Umuahia, Abia State – June 6, 2025 — In a bold move to reshape Nigeria’s political future, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners convened a high-level political summit in Umuahia on Friday, officially adopting the ADC as the platform for their collective drive toward the 2027 general elections.

The summit, described as a defining moment for the coalition, brought together political leaders, reform advocates, and civil society voices under one roof to unveil a unified agenda rooted in integrity, equity, and good governance.

Announcing the coalition’s strategic direction, Don Norman Obinna, Chairman of ADC in Abia State, said the adoption of the ADC is a deliberate response to what he termed years of “governance failure, economic mismanagement, and the disenfranchisement of citizens” under the current APC-led administration.

“This is not just a political realignment,” Obinna said. “ADC is adopted as a coalition party to right the wrongs orchestrated by the APC. The unemployment rate is alarming, the naira is in a free fall, and the civil servants’ minimum wage is a national disgrace.”

Obinna further stated that the coalition aims to offer Nigerians a credible alternative built on visionary leadership, accountability, and economic revival.

“We are here to chase hunger out of Nigeria and restore the country to a trajectory of prosperity. Since 1999, our ideology in Abia has been to bring in men of integrity who can rebuild Nigeria with justice and fairness,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a renowned political scholar and reform advocate, underscored the urgency of citizen engagement and stakeholder participation in reclaiming Nigeria’s democratic path.

He also decried the continued marginalisation of the South East and made a strong case for rotational leadership and equitable representation.

“We must not sell our votes for rice, wrappers, or fake promises,” Professor Afamefuna warned. “Only through citizen-led accountability can Nigeria chart a new course.”

Adding his voice, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate, urged coalition leaders to critically vet all political aspirants to prevent the infiltration of corrupt actors and ensure the integrity of the movement.

The summit concluded with a renewed call for political liberation in Abia State and across Nigeria, with attendees pledging to work collectively toward building a nation founded on transparency, justice, and people-centered leadership.
