Abia PDP Crisis Deepens: Faction Expels Chairman Abraham Amah, Dismisses Wabara’s Suspension

A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, known as Frontiers for Change and Progress, has announced the expulsion of the state party chairman, Abraham Amah, over allegations of impersonation.

The group also dismissed Amah’s earlier suspension of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, calling it a “big joke” and insisting that Amah lacks the constitutional authority to take such action.

Speaking at a press briefing in Umuahia on Tuesday, the group’s National Coordinator and former Commissioner of the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, declared that the Abia PDP currently has no recognized state executive. He cited a court injunction that allegedly nullified the congress that produced Amah as chairman.

“We heard this afternoon that one Amah Abraham, parading as Abia PDP Chairman, claimed he had suspended the BoT chairman of our great party, His Excellency, Senator Adolphus Wabara. But those of us who know Abraham Amah are not surprised. We know his antecedents,” Ikpegbu stated.

He emphasized that only the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has the authority to suspend a BoT chairman, which must follow due process, including a formal petition from Wabara’s ward and multiple invitations before any disciplinary action.

The faction also questioned why party members allegedly involved in anti-party activities in Abuja had not been sanctioned, arguing that Wabara, as an elder statesman, had committed no offense by expressing his views on the governance of Abia State.

The controversy erupted earlier on Tuesday when Amah announced Wabara’s suspension, accusing him of anti-party activities. However, with the latest development, the PDP crisis in Abia State appears far from over.
