Prominent activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has commended key opposition leaders for what he described as a bold and strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeyanju praised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and other notable stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for exiting the party to join forces under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The move, reported earlier by DAILY POST, marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, as the opposition leaders cited the need for a united front to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next presidential election.
The defectors have also called on other PDP members and opposition figures to rally behind the ADC platform, aiming to consolidate political strength and present a viable alternative in 2027.
Reacting to the development in a Facebook post, Adeyanju declared that the PDP is “finally dead,” expressing satisfaction that opposition figures are now prioritizing unity over individual ambition.
“I’m proud of the opposition for coming together finally. Special thanks to Atiku, Obi, and other top opposition leaders for putting aside their personal ambition to make this happen,” he wrote.
He further urged New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to join the alliance, stressing that such unity was overdue. “This is what they should have done in 2023. Whenever you wake up is your morning. Good morning to the opposition,” Adeyanju added.
The political shakeup is expected to redefine power dynamics as the countdown to 2027 begins.
