2027 Elections: SDP Declares Itself the “New Bride” of Nigerian Politics, Vows to Unseat Tinubu

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has declared its readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other major parties, expressing confidence in its growing nationwide appeal.

The party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Abubakar Dogara, made this known during the SDP North-Central Zonal Caucus meeting held on Thursday in Nasarawa State. Dogara described the SDP as the “new political bride” of Nigerians and emphasized the party’s ongoing grassroots mobilization efforts.

“We are organizing meetings from the zonal and national levels down to wards, states, and local governments,” Dogara said. “Our membership drive is ongoing, and in many states, our membership cards are constantly being exhausted due to high demand.”

He praised key party stakeholders including Hon. Jonathan Gaza, Prince Adewale Adebayo, and Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferrari for their roles in strengthening the SDP in the North Central zone.

A major resolution from the meeting, he noted, was to protect the party’s internal structure and shield members from external political influences that could destabilize the party’s growth.

Calling on Nigerians to embrace the SDP, Dogara emphasized the party’s focus on citizen welfare, accountability, and constitutional integrity, asserting that these values distinguish the SDP from the current administration.

“SDP is now the alternative party in Nigeria,” he stated. “We urge all Nigerians to register from the ward to national level and be part of this movement for change.”

Also speaking at the event, the SDP Chairman in Benue State, Idoko Idoto, voiced optimism about the party’s resurgence in the region.

“SDP has a 100% chance in Benue State. We’ve governed here before and have always fielded credible candidates,” Idoto said. “Come 2027, we are coming with full force to take over Benue—across the Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly.”

He concluded by affirming the party’s preparedness to deliver transformative leadership across Nigeria.
