Zelensky to Visit South Africa in April

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to visit South Africa on April 10, the country’s presidency announced on Friday.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed the visit, stating that it is part of ongoing discussions aimed at fostering an inclusive peace process between Russia and Ukraine.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa extended the invitation following criticism of diplomatic efforts by Russia and the United States to negotiate an end to the war without Ukraine or its European allies at the table.

“South Africa remains committed to supporting the dialogue process between Russia and Ukraine,” Ramaphosa said in a statement on X. He emphasized the importance of a peace process that includes all relevant parties.

Zelensky expressed gratitude for South Africa’s support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reiterating that any resolution must directly involve his country.

“It is important that our countries share the same position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” Zelensky stated.

The visit underscores South Africa’s role in global diplomatic efforts to mediate an end to the ongoing conflict.
