Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has decried the increasing violence in Nigeria’s southeastern region, questioning the rationale behind the killings of innocent people.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, Edochie criticized individuals who claim to be fighting for Biafra yet turn against their own people. He emphasized that no ideology justifies harming fellow citizens, regardless of differing beliefs.
The actor described those responsible for the attacks as cowards, stating that true courage lies in protecting one’s people rather than destroying them.
“An Igbo man says he’s fighting for Biafra, then he starts killing his own people. So who then are you fighting for?” Edochie wrote.
“There can never be any justification for harming your own people, whether they agree with your ideology or not. Only a coward kills his people to make a point. A courageous man protects his people at all cost. ONYE GBULU NWANNE YA ABURO ODOGWU!”
His remarks come amid growing concerns over insecurity in the Southeast, where violent attacks have led to loss of lives and heightened tensions.
