Senate Slams CBN for Stalling N30 Trillion Probe

0

The Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating the N30 trillion Ways and Means facility has accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of obstructing its probe into the funds provided to the past administration between 2015 and 2023.

Committee chairman, Senator Jibrin Isah, made the accusation after receiving an interim report from consultants hired to examine the facility’s utilization. He lamented that the CBN has failed to provide critical documents, frustrating efforts to uncover how the funds were spent, particularly regarding budget deficit cover.

“The details of the spending were deliberately shielded from the National Assembly,” Isah stated, adding that the committee would not permit CBN officials to attend further meetings unless a deputy governor or higher authority is present.

Despite claims by the CBN’s Director of Banking Services, Hamisu Abdullahi, that all necessary documents were provided, the committee maintains that key financial records are still being withheld.

Isah warned that unless the CBN cooperates, the committee will make its findings public, emphasizing that “major infractions” have already been identified.
