The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has refuted allegations linking him to a purported attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the claims as “mischievous” and “senseless.”
Bello, speaking through the Director of his Media Office, Ohiare Michael, on Monday, dismissed the publication by an online platform, Daily Excessive, as baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image.
“Our attention has been drawn to a mischievous and utterly senseless report published by a mushroom blog called Daily Excessive, which attributed fake quotes against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to our principal,” the statement read.
The media office decried the report as the latest in a series of failed attempts by “irresponsible politicians” to strain the cordial relationship between Bello and Tinubu.
“These desperate and laughable twists are nothing but a continuation of their failed bring-him-down-at-all-cost agenda,” the statement added.
The publication in question allegedly quoted Bello as threatening to reveal how President Tinubu became the nation’s leader. The former governor’s media office dismissed the claims as not only untrue but also a testament to the “unintelligent tactics” of Bello’s detractors.
“Every Nigerian following court proceedings knows that the former governor has only taken his plea before the courts, with trials yet to commence,” the statement clarified.
The office further pointed out that court proceedings are open to journalists and stakeholders, making it easy for the public to verify claims. It labeled Daily Excessive a “purveyor of fake news” and accused its authors of acting out of desperation.
Bello reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging Nigerians to disregard the fabricated report.
“Our principal remains committed to the ideals of the APC and the success of President Tinubu’s administration,” the statement concluded.
Bello’s media team has threatened legal action against Daily Excessive, emphasizing their commitment to holding the blog accountable for spreading false information.
